| The
Way of the Vajra
Vajra is the Sanskrit word for “lightning."
The vajra is the symbol of the ultimate power of our
Essential Nature to cut through our self-manufactured
delusions. Indra, king of the gods in Vedic mythology,
who represents enlightened Mind, carries the vajra as
his weapon.
The Way of the Vajra is also known as “Direct
Realization Tantra” because its methods yield
rapid results. The relationship with the teacher is
the main and sometimes only practice in this very challenging
path.
The Way of the Vajra can be followed successfully
only by a student who is dedicated, sincere, psychologically
self-possessed, mentally tough, who has complete confidence
in themselves, and who has the ability to continue in
the face of immense doubt and fear.
For the 6 Ways of Tantra to be a complete representation,
the Way of the Vajra must be included in this presentation.
However, the student for whom this Way is appropriate
is very rare indeed. As well, the free environment of
spontaneity required to enliven the teachings and meditations
is far from a classroom setting.
Therefore, training in the Way of the Vajra is by application
only, and is not encouraged at all.
